CALSTART is a non-profit statewide consortium dedicated to creating an advanced transportation technologies industry for California. Since its formation in 1992, CALSTART has grown from 40 participating companies and organizations to more than 200 today, reflecting the tremendous interest and opportunities in this new industry. These companies range from large aerospace/defense firms, to electronics/high-tech leaders, to smaller entrepreneurial firms as well as public utilities, labor and environmental organizations and public agencies. Brought together, they represent a formidable, diverse team committed to a new generation of clean vehicles and transportation.

To this end, CALSTART and its participants have created and operate more than 35 interrelated technology and infrastructure development and demonstration programs, worth more than $75 million. All programs focus on technologies with near-term commercialization potential, and work to advance components and vehicles in the electric, hybrid electric, natural gas and ITS (Intelligent Transportation Systems) arenas.
